Please read this brief Camfrog Translation Style Guide before you do your first translation. The Style Guide is to ensure Camfrog users from your locale have great Camfrog experience.

General rules

• ! Be sure to maintain consistency. Pay attention to how some terms have been previously translated by others. Be sure to translate these terms the same way.
• ! Be sure to refer to screenshots or live website pages. You must exactly know the context of each translated phrase. Web page URL is provided in the translated page description, when possible.
• ! Always be politically correct when translating items pertinent to races, nationalities, religions and physical and mental impairments. If you are not sure how to properly translate any such item, leave it to another translator. Example 1
• ! Please only translate Camfrog into your native language, or languages you are very fluent in.
• ! Please avoid slang and nonstandard grammar.
• ! Please feel free to contact us if you encounter any problems or disagree with other translators or proofreaders.

How to translate…

Camfrog Products' and Components' Names

Camfrog product names appear in the online store untranslated. Therefore, they must NOT be translated anywhere else. Product names are always capitalized so pay attention:

• Camfrog Video Chat Room Server
• Camfrog Video Chat Room Server (Windows)
• Camfrog Video Chat Room Server (Linux)
• Camfrog Cloud Server
• Camfrog Bot
• Camfrog Web

Sometimes Camfrog users do not know IT English well enough. So, it's not quite clear what a certain Camfrog product is all about. It is possible to leave a short translation in brackets after the product name where appropriate.

Always translate the following:

• Camfrog Video Chat Room Server for Windows (only "for" should be translated)
• Camfrog Video Chat Room Server for Linux (only "for" should be translated)
• Camfrog Client (should be translated as "Camfrog client software" or similarly)
• Camfrog Blog
• Virtual Gift
• Room (sometimes best translated as "chat room" or "video chat room" to be more specific)

Gift Names

Gift names appear in the online store untranslated. Therefore, they must NOT be translated anywhere else.

Gift Categories

Gift categories should be translated.

Numbers

Be sure to insert number separators that are standard for your locale. Example 2

Currencies

Do NOT convert original currencies. Example 3

If the currency is not specified, it is assumed to be US Dollars. Here it is recommended that you add currency specification in your language. Example 4

Sometimes the currency is not important and can be translated. However, you can leave the currency unchanged, just to be on the safe side. Example 5

Tags

HTML tags (and other possible types of tags/attributes/etc.) must NOT be translated or edited. If you miss a tag or add your own one, you will see an error message. Example 6

Pay attention to words inside tags that may require translation. Example 7

Special Characters

When translating the ampersand (&), find out if it's a part of a tag. Note that HTML notation for ampersand is & so pay attention.

If ampersand is not a tag but a standard replacement for "and", you should translate it as if it were a simple "and". Example 8

If the ampersand is a part of a tag, always leave it without translation! Example 9

Menu Items and Other Terms from Third-Party Software

There are lots of terms that come from Microsoft Windows or other operating systems or software. Avoid translating these terms yourself! Instead, check how exactly they were localized by the software owner. If you can't check, simply leave that phrase to another translator. Example 10

Examples

• "Did you know Camfrog has features built into its software just for deaf users?" In some locales "deaf users" are best translated as "audibly impaired/hard-of-hearing users"

• United States: 10,000
  Some other countries: 10 000
  United States: .05
  Some other countries: 0,05 or 0.05

• Leave USD untranslated in "Buy Camfrog Pro features for 0.95 USD per year!"

• This phrase does not contain "US Dollars" as the currency:
  "Instantly unlock these Pro features for .95 per year!"
  
  When translating, it should be understood as
  "Instantly unlock these Pro features for 0.95 USD per year!" or
  "Instantly unlock these Pro features for 95 cents per year!"

• "Some cracks even contain malicious programs that are made to ruin your computer permanently and this could cost you thousands of dollars!"
  "Thousands of dollars" can be accordingly translated to your locale's currency amount.

• "Go to the "Camfrog" menu in the main application window"
  Words marked in bold are tags and should not be translated.

• "In Windows <b>Start</b> menu choose <b>Run...</b>"
  Here the words Start and Run… are surrounded by the tags but they aren't tags themselves. You need to check your locale's version of Microsoft Windows to see how these items have been translated by Microsoft.

• "Abuse & Safety Center" should be translated as "Abuse and Safety Center"

• "Go to the "Camfrog" menu in the main application window,"
  Words marked in bold should be left intact.
  
  "In Windows <b>Start</b> menu choose <b>Run...</b>"
  Words marked in bold should be left intact.

• "In Windows <b>Start</b> menu choose <b>Run...</b>"
